 2025 Legislative Priorities

2025 Session: Aligning with the Trump Agenda

Whether it's rounding up immigrants, implementing a state DOGE initiative, weakening gun regulations, knee-capping citizen-led initiatives, renaming the Gulf of Mexico, or expanding school vouchers, the Governor and the 2025 Florida Legislature appear laser-focused on finding ways to align with the agenda of the Trump administration.  Lost in that mix are any meaningful efforts to address the issues Floridians really care about: affordable housing, skyrocketing property insurance, access to health care and reproductive health services, climate change, and voting rights. More than 1,300 bills have been pre-filed for the session. Most will never make it through the process.

Elections matter: With Republican supermajorities in both Houses, we know progressive ideas face an uphill battle in Tallahassee and effective action will require both strong partners and focused attention. In 2025, BAM is concentrating its advocacy in five priority areas: climate change, local control & protecting state parks; public health & reproductive rights; ending gun violence; voting rights, and public education.

You can get involved by watching for bills on topics you care about and advocating for or against them. Sign up for bill tracking notices on the websites of both the Florida Senate and House

(Click "Tracker"/"Tracking" on links).  Sign up for legislative alerts from from groups, like the ACLU and Sierra Club, who share your interests. BAM will also publish alerts on its priorities and ask for help in reaching out to legislators.

You can also join thousands of voters in having a voice in government by signing up for the Digital Democracy Project. The project provides a brief summary, as well as pros and cons, of key bills in the FL legislative session, and offers an opportunity for you to vote on them.  Vote tallies are shared with legislators, and used to create an annual score card for each state lawmaker. The project offers the same options for federal bills and actions by Congress.

Florida's public health system is under threat as a result of anti-science, politicized attacks.  For more than a decade, the state has denied uninsured residents, access to health insurance. And

despite opposition by a majority of Floridians, the Legislature continues to search for ways to further restrict access to abortion.

Public Health & Reproductive Rights
Ending Gun Violence

Efforts continue to roll back sensible gun regulations passed by the Legislature in the aftermath of the mass shooting

at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. Follow Moms Demand Action for legislative alerts.

Climate Change, Local Control & Protecting
State Parks

One bipartisan priority for most Floridans is protecting the natural beauty we all love. Last year public outcry forced the quick withdrawal of the state's development plans for many of our state parks. And the dangerous ripple effect of

national & state leadership determined to deny the reality of climate change has undermined local environmental regs across the state.

Education

The passage of a universal voucher program in 2023 has drained essential funding from public schools in Florida.

Campaigns by Moms for Liberty and other radical groups have led to widespread book bans, inaccurate and restrictive curricula, and loss of support for vulnerable students. Sign up for alerts from Public School Defenders to support public education, students & teachers.

  • Protect students’ right to learn: eliminate book bans and restrictive curriculum.

  • Fully fund public schools, including salary increases for teachers.

Democracy & Voting Rights

Over the last decade, states, including Florida, have added nearly 100 restrictive laws since the U.S. Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act. The state has targeted vote-by-mail and made it harder

for grass-roots organizations to register voters. Recent efforts, pushed by the Governor, have focused on knee-capping citizens' initiated ballot measures despite widespread opposition.

  • Eliminate requirements for requesting VBM ballots annually, making requests valid for at least three years.
